Mindful Minute: Tips to Better Your Mental Health-Aug 2024
Sometimes, bettering your mental health means making small manageable changes in your daily thoughts, feelings, and actions.
That’s why every month, we’re bringing you quick tips to tend to your mental health in the workplace, at home, or anywhere else life may take you.
Small reminders that make a big difference:
- Stop over-explaining yourself. Keeping it short and sweet shows you’re confident and unlikely to be talked out of something.
- Knowing you can change your own mind makes it easier to make up your mind. Keep a flexible mindset.
- Knock something simple off your to-do list. Being able to check that “box” provides good quality dopamine.
- You don’t need to do things perfectly in order to do them well.
- Don’t change everything at once. Make two small changes at a time, and incorporate them into your daily life until they become habit.
- Communicate your boundaries so people don’t have to try and guess where they are.
- Pause and drink a glass of water. 75 percent of the population is chronically dehydrated, which makes our brains less resilient to stress.
- Be many things all at ounce (shy and outgoing, skeptical and hopeful, organized and scattered). You’re a human, not a robot. Be as complex as you need.
- Exhaustion isn’t a requirement to say “no.” It means you waited too long.
- Resting is more restorative/productive when we don’t guilt ourselves for what we “should be doing.”
- It’s okay to walk away from a “side hustle.”
- The loudest people aren’t always the ones worth hearing. Life brings many teachers. Figure out which ones to listen to.
- Your body and mind don’t have an on/off switch. It’s okay if it takes time to settle into a slower rhythm of life.
- True connection with another person doesn’t come from people-pleasing.
- It’s okay if you hop off someone else’s emotional rollercoaster…even if you’ve spent a lot of time on it.
- There’s no deadline on growth and no timeline on progress. Start where you are and go according to your own pace. Not a pace constructed by society.
